“Lightning our Buddy”

Writer: Tracey StankusTracey Stankus

1/23/25 A sad day- Mommy, Daddy and Princess- Miss you so

The silence is deafening

The echoes of your essence remain

I look for you still

Dreams so vivid of my four-legged friend

Melancholy a familiar trend

You are always there in the back of my mind

Princess misses you too

She is not yet blind

A yellow plastic pig about your size of you

A companion what a find

Some days she sits with it under her chin

Or lye’s quietly beside listening for you

Daddy misses you too

Is very tearful many of night

His buddy no longer near and out of sight

Snacks are not the same

Although, we know all dogs go to heaven

We miss you still

Your big bright flame

You are, and where the best parts of seventeen

A family member with a lighted name

There is no other that could take your place

Yesterday you came home in a tan wooden box

Tucked inside a blue smooth bag

A footprint to keep made us sad

Your blanket of hearts with paws

Washed, gently tucked away

We hope it kept you warm

Cherished keepsakes make us weep

Pieces of you to help us through

Some hair we clipped in your last precious hours

A tooth from the jump to the pool table

Mistake, such a memory it makes

With foggy eyes

And your body weak

We understood you had to go

Although we tried everything to keep you here

Dropper feeds were not enough

An angel chasing your toys

We miss you so

Home is not the same

Thank you for being our buddy

We understood you had to go

We love you so

We love you still

Always have, always will

Seventeen years was not enough
