Spring Daylight

Spring

Written By Tracey Stankus 3/9/2025

The long dark days of winter are behind us

Clocks have jumped ahead

The lovely glow of spring

Ideal for minimal dread

Time to plant our seeds to root

Hoping to put forth shoots

Tips of tender green blades, Leaf or sheath

Hidden life beneath

That breaks forth from underneath

Windy cold days with sun shining bright

Almost out of sight

Some days with soaking rain

Grass of brown with green returning

Young leaves clothe early hedgerow trees and shrubs remain

Birds sing and pair again make the days such a delight

There is no time like Spring,

When nature in New England is alive again,

Before new nestlings sing,

Before snowbirds make their journey back,

Along their path some in flight,

God guides their wings,

He spreads their table that they nothing lack,

Before the tulip and daffodil are back

Before the sun has power,

Longer days on track for the flower

There is no time like Spring,

Spring-life born to die,

Before the tulip and daffodil grow

Chicks hatched in a nest,

Mama's gaze allows them to rest,

Grown on the gusty branch worn

Strong on the wing:

There is no time like Spring

Now newly born,

Some Hastening to die,
